Job Description:

The Manager GB Project Initiatives is a key member of the Group Benefits Finance team reporting to the Director of SLH Finance Initiatives and Reinsurance. As a key member of the Group Benefits Finance team, you will work independently and collaboratively with members of the Group Benefits Finance team, Application Services, SunRise Project Team and other Business units to configure and implement key systems and processes supporting GB Finance teams initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Champion and support analysis for the implementation of key processes and system changes.
  • Responsible for interpreting, documenting, testing of system changes.
  • Educate teams on changes driven by various projects that impact the SAP/EFDW GL and finance processes.
  • Support the Finance team’s investigation of Financial Statements issues.
  • Lead the creation of new reporting from the SAP/EFDW GL.
  • Support the implementation and testing of the Frontier reconciliation project.
  • Work with the finance area to identify, track and resolve accounting issues.
  • Support the implementation of external business units’ projects that impact the accounting system and processes.
  • Identify and champion improved controls and efficiencies within the GB Finance processes.
  • Manage the 3416 audit program.

Core competencies:

  • Significant experience with the Group Benefits business, systems and processes.
  • Established working relationships with key Group Benefits leaders and teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with attention to accuracy and details.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to explain difficult concepts to audiences of different levels of understanding.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities with common deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain successful relationships with business partners.
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

Qualifications/Skills :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a finance/accounting role within a large corporate environment.
  • CPA designation (attained or in progress) or MBA an asset.

Other relevant assets:

  • Business knowledge in the areas of Insurance accounting
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17

Notes / unique requirements:

  • Eligible or RCMP (Government Data) clearance
  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
